Thematic Essay - Moby Dick Resources
The themes of Moby Dick are many. There is the battle of good and evil in the form of Starbuck and Ahab; the search for truth; biblical references; foreshadowing of death; the human capacity for evil; and the number three. Another topic would be why Starbuck decides to continue the whale hunt after Ahab dies. In order to write effectively on the subject, check out these resources for your paper:
The Whale - chapter by chapter - the story
Spark Notes on Moby Dick - the summary
The rubric on the essay is located in the assignments section of the blog, to your right. Please note that no matter the theme, the paper should have logical connections, elaborate ideas from different angles, and evidence. Five pieces of evidence with at least one from the text, not the film, will give you a superior mark.
